Dog Wireless Collar?

My husband and I are about to move into our new house in the country along with our German Shepherd. Since he has always been in a fenced in area, we are looking into alternative routes to penning him up. Since he is a bigger dog also he does need to be contained some, since we are off a busy road and do have neighbors with livestock. I do not want the underground wired system, since my husband really doesn’t like the dog anyway- he would not go for paying a lot of money to get that done (and they just laid sod at our house) but have heard about a wireless perimeter collar. Has anyone used one of these? Any recommendations? Any suggestions? This dog is my baby and I want the best product out on the market for him. Please help!

We have the PetSafe Wireless system and it is terrific. I have a large Redbone Coonhound who is used since puppyhood with absolute success. We have also fostered the same breed and every one of those dogs, even though trained to “hunt” learned to stop at the perimeter and did not go through. I highly recommend!!

The only downside is that it is a circular boundry so you may have a situation where in order to accomodate access on one side of your property, you may have to broaden access on another side, giving more freedom then you would like. Also, the batteries can add up. Ours only last approx. 1 month, but that can also be attributed to that fact that we leave the unit on all day!

All dogs will need some training as without training, a dog will be a dog and do what dogs typically do. A dog training collar can help reinforce commands and signals and help the dog not only alter its natural behavior but also learn what the owner wants it to do.
