Also called electronic, wireless, radio and hidden pet fences, these devices, combined with training, work incredibly well and can greatly improve your pet’s quality of life. However, there are some things to consider before buying an invisible pet fence so that you can be sure that you are getting the best value from your purchase.
1) Make sure there is ample wire included in the system. The wire is what you bury underground to set the perimeter or the “boundary”. You need enough to set the border, have enough left over for repairs, and to go around any other objects you would like your pet to stay away from. There is a big difference in the amount of wire provided by different systems and not a huge price difference so make sure that the one you buy covers your needs.
2) Find out what type of batteries the system requires and how often they will need to be changed. Do your research ahead of time here. The manufacturers will list how long the battery life on the electronic system is. Again, there is a big difference in how much battery life you will get from each system and this can make a big difference in value. Also, some systems require 6 volt batteries that are harder to find than the 9 volt batteries other systems use.
3) Warranty. There are big variances in warranty terms of invisible pet fence systems too. Compare the sales price and warranty length of the system you are considering, with other leading brands. Make sure that the warranty offers good value for durability. It is also a good idea to read consumer reports that speak to the durability of the pet fence.
